OpenOffice Suite

Web Browsing

  • Mozilla Firefox – Nearly half the internet population already knows this one and if you are reading this you may already use it and need no further introduction.

Word Processing

  • OpenOffice Suite – This one is my favorite because it’s the equivalent of MS Office Suite. It’s got Open Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint equivalent and all can open Microsoft documents and save as Microsoft documents so all your contacts will be able to use your documents. Another feature of the OpenOffice Word is exporting to Adobe PDF,which allows for password encryption and no-print functions that you can add to secure your PDF documents.

Audio Recording

  • Audacity – An entire audio recording and editing studio. All files can be exported to wav and mp3 with a small addon.

Photo Editing

  • GIMP – Photo editing (Photoshop)
  • Inkscape – Vector Graphics (Adobe Illustrator)

File Transfer

Notepad/Coding/Programming

  • Notepad ++: Simple opensource notepad client for coders and programmers

Video Playback

  • Miro: A video player that plays more video types than Windows Media Player!
